그 동안 본인이 천착해왔던 작품의 내용은 세 시기로 나누어 볼 수 있다.
첫째, 신프로이트학파 칼 구스타프 융의 영향이었다.
그에 의해 말하여진 조상들로부터 물려받은 원시적 이미지, 즉 원형(原型, Archetype)에 대한 관심이었다. 그것은 “우리는 누구이고 우리는 어디에서 왔는가.” 라는 근원에 대한 탐구였다. 그리하여 그 시원을 찾기 위한 조형적 실천으로서 선사시대의 석기, 청동기, 철기 등의 각종 유물들, 또 삼국시대기의 고분 벽화에서 추출된 형상들을 회화적으로 표현 하였다.
둘째, 자연에 대한 관심이었다.
수많은 사슬로 엮여있는 유기체들의 놀랄만한 다양성, 적응의 정교함, 그리고 흥미진진한 행동들에 경이로움을 느꼈다. 또 생명체 집단에서 발견 할 수 있는 동물들의 조직화 방법, 이동하는 철새나 물고기의 공간적 대형, 거미집과 벌집 같은 구조물에서 통일, 비례, 균형, 대칭 등의 조형요소들을 발견 할 수 있었다. 이렇게 발견된 생명체들의 이미지들은 새로운 형태로 재현되며, 그것은 형식적, 내용적으로 사실과 추상, 정과 반, 자연과 인공, 생성과 소멸 등의 반명제들의 조화에 의한 이중 구조를 띠게 된다.
셋째, 순환(Circulation) 이란 매우 탄력적인 주제를 갖게 된다.
순환은 “어떤 현상이나 일련의 변화 과정이 주기적으로 반복되거나 되풀이 하여 돎” 을 말한다. 늘 되풀이 되는 계절이나 달의 차고 기움 같은 자연의 순환, 유기체의 삶과 죽음과 같은 생명의 순환, 또는 사회적, 정치적 권력에 의한 역사의 순환 등의 시간적 연결 고리를 조형언어로 구체화한다.
그리하여 새로운 삶을 반추하고, 그 가치를 제고한다.
