지난해에 이어 10개월 만에 하게 된 개인전이라 심적 부담이 큰 만큼 작업 외에는 다른 생각을 가질 여유가 없었다.
특히 가까운 곳이 아니면 여행은 꿈도 꾸지 못할 만큼. 대신 개인전 주제에 대한 큰 고민은 할 필요가 없었다.
쳇바퀴 굴러가듯 하는 나의 일상 외에는 무엇을 그릴 수 있었으랴.
평소에도 걸어 다니며 여기 저기 기웃거리는 걸 좋아하는 덕분에 소재를 찾기는 어렵지 않았지만
어떻게 표현할지에 대한 고민을 거듭하다 일단 그려보기로 마음먹는다. 내가 인식하기도 전에 내 몸과 손이 먼저 반응하면서 나의 무의식을 깨운다.
이번 전시를 준비하면서 산책길에서의 이름 모를 풀들은 내게 큰 의미로 다가왔다. 언뜻 지저분해 보이지만 자세히 보니 아름답다.
생명력이 넘쳐나고 자유롭다. 그 자연을 누리는 자들은 활기차다. 이런 이유로 산책길은 당분간 시리즈로 계속 작업을 할 예정이다.
마당과 집들은 기존의 표현법을 갖고 그렸다면 이번에 새로 그린 `산책길` 시리즈는 작은 한 부분을 확대해 그리는
미니멀한 시각으로 배경이 되는 풀들을 표현하고 인물들은 소인국에 온 듯 작지만 두터운 질감으로 거칠게 표현함으로 미미해 보이는
개인들의 존재를 좀 더 역동적으로 보이도록 표현하고자 했다. 그리고 이러한 인물표현 방식은 `시장`의 군중들로 이어진다.
집을 나서서 하천 변 산책을 즐기고 시장을 한 바퀴 돌아 길을 건너고 카페에서 잠깐 쉼과 여유를 누린 후
골목 골목을 헤집고 집으로 돌아오는 동네에서 노는 나의 하루속에 담긴 풍경과 군상들이다.
